As we move into the delivery phase, we have two dynamic 12-month fixed-term opportunities that will be instrumental in spearheading enterprise-wide transformation—enabling us to continue making a meaningful difference in people’s lives and ensuring Queenslanders remain safely at work.   

Reporting to the Software Engineering Lead, the Senior Software Engineer will play a critical role in delivering innovative technology solutions that directly shape Queensland’s workplace safety landscape. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects within a progressive, forward-thinking government organisation. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Design, develop and maintain robust software solutions using modern technologies and best practices to support WorkCover's digital transformation 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality applications that enhance user experience and operational efficiency 

• Lead technical initiatives, mentor junior developers, and contribute to architectural decisions that align with our strategic technology roadmap 

• Implement secure, scalable solutions while ensuring compliance with government standards and data protection requirements 

• Participate in agile development processes, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive technical excellence 

What we are looking for:

• Extensive experience delivering enterprise-level software solutions with strong programming expertise in Java and Spring Boot 2/3 

• Experience with JSP or Oracle databases is highly desirable 

• Ability to drive secure development practices with a quality-first mindset, leveraging unit testing, security controls, and code quality standards 

• Deep knowledge of software architecture principles, database design, and system integration 

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, API development, microservices architecture, and modern development methodologies (DevOps, CI/CD) 

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with strong communication abilities to explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
