WorkCover Queensland is entering an exciting new chapter, guided by a renewed strategic focus and strong executive leadership shaping our 2030 Strategy. We’re embarking on an enterprise-wide transformation to strengthen our impact and continue making a positive difference in people’s lives.
What You’ll Do
As the Lead, Integration Engineering, you’ll define and drive the technical backbone of WorkCover Queensland’s digital services. You’ll be our integration authority, setting the direction for API Led, event driven, and data integration, shaping technical target state architecture, and overseeing the engineering and DevOps practices that make it real.
You’ll turn business needs into secure, scalable, high-performance integration designs, and influence senior leaders with clear, pragmatic recommendations. This role will uplift engineering maturity by setting standards, governing patterns, and building reusable assets that improve speed, quality, and developer experience.
You will:
- Shape delivery options, architectural trade-offs, and roadmap priorities with clear, executive ready communication.
- Maintain end-to-end traceability from business requirements to design decisions, ensuring ADRs (Architectural Decision Records), interface contracts, and runbooks stay current.
- Define, approve, and guide detailed integration designs—API contracts, event schemas, data models, sequence diagrams.
- Govern and evolve the integration pattern catalogue, ensuring consistency and approving exceptions.
- Embed reliability into every service: resilience, scalability, observability, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs.
- Set and enforce engineering standards across coding, branching, reviews, testing, and secure by design.
- Own and standardise CI/CD pipelines, environment strategies, artefact/version management, and feature flagging.
- Lead secure coding, secret management, SBOM creation, and vulnerability remediation.
- Oversee modern release and change practices—blue/green, canary, rollback/roll‑forward—with clear readiness criteria.
- Establish strong observability practices; drive reliability using SLOs and error budgets.
- Develop golden paths, templates, and reusable components that accelerate delivery.
- Govern API and event lifecycle management—from design through to versioning and deprecation.
If you thrive at the intersection of engineering excellence, architecture leadership, and enterprise scale influence, this role puts you at the forefront of WorkCover’s digital transformation.
What We’re Looking For
A technically exceptional integration leader who:
- Has deep expertise across APIs, events, and data integration.
- Navigates complex enterprise environments with ease.
- Communicates with clarity and influence at senior levels.
- Champions secure, reliable, high‑performing digital services.
What You’ll Bring
You bring strong engineering leadership, technical depth, and enterprise experience, including:
- Expertise in API‑led connectivity, event‑driven architecture, ETL/ELT, and interface contract management.
- Strong DevOps and platform engineering capability—CI/CD, automation, testing, observability, SRE, release strategies.
- Security leadership across secure‑by‑design, secrets management, SBOM, and vulnerability remediation.
- Ability to influence SLT and governance forums with clear technical options and recommendations.
- Strong documentation and communication skills (ADRs, runbooks, operational readiness).
- Proven leadership across teams, vendors, and complex integration domains.
- Commercial judgement, prioritisation, and oversight of delivery quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems (postgrad highly regarded).
- Cloud/integration certifications (Azure, AWS) and ITIL/Agile credentials.
- Vendor‑specific integration certifications (MuleSoft, Boomi) advantageous.
- 10+ years’ experience in enterprise software or integration engineering.
- 5+ years leading integration platforms or squads as a Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or Platform Lead.
- Hands‑on experience with API gateways, event/messaging platforms, and data integration tools.
- Experience in regulated sectors (insurance, finance, healthcare) is highly valued.
