Account Director - Defence

The Opportunity 

As we continue our ambitious growth trajectory, we seek an exceptional Client-side Account Director - Defence, to join our business during this pivotal phase of expansion. This newly created strategic role offers a unique opportunity to lead the Defence account and deliver waste management and resource recovery services across the Defence Estate, prioritising optimised sustainability outcomes to deliver maximum benefits for Defence. 

You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising commercial, operations, service, and resource recovery specialists to exceed contracted objectives and ensure a best in class customer experience. 

The Account Director - Defence will drive optimisation initiatives while ensuring full compliance with the contract's Statement of Work (SOW), Pricing Policies, and Service Delivery Plan. A significant aspect of this role is overseeing the waste resource recovery roadmap, which aims to achieve 80% landfill diversion by 2030. 

Central to your success will be your exceptional relationship management skills that meet the highest standards of ethical business practices between all stakeholders. Together with Defence, you will work in a respectful and collaborative partnership, based upon due diligence, integrity and trust. You will,

  • Understand and meet Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) requirements to meet necessary governance and compliance contractual obligations.
  • Develop and strengthen long-term customer relationships through strategic engagement, regular communication and senior-level contract management. 
  • Use data-driven insights to develop and implement strategies for optimisation, service improvement and resource recovery. 
  • Directly lead, manage and motivate a team of 10 professional subject matter experts to achieve Defence objectives
  • Collaborate seamlessly with strategic and operational teams to ensure alignment and synergy across all industry partners and service offerings to achieve best value for money outcomes for Defence.
  • Identify, initiate and innovate growth opportunities across the broader Cleanaway service offering to maximise our strategic and operational value to Defence and the Commonwealth. 

 

About You 

To succeed in this strategic leadership role, you will bring extensive experience managing complex national accounts within a large-scale organisation (ASX-listed or similar). You are highly skilled in relationship management and commercial contract review and have a proven history of successfully driving customer value, retention and growth. 

  • Client-side strategic leadership role with Defence and multidisciplinary estate work will be highly regarded.
  • Your ability to lead a diverse, high-performing team and manage multiple stakeholders in a complex, multi-contractor environment will be critical to your success. 
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in a Senior Leadership role or a comparable strategic role within a large organisation. 
  • Expertise in negotiating, managing complex relationships, and building long-term partnerships in a multifaceted environment. 
  • Proven track record in customer engagement and working with industry partners to deliver superior customer outcomes. 
  • Exceptional financial acumen that can manage and optimise profitability across large accounts nationally. 
  • A strong understanding of compliance and governance in Government environments will be highly regarded as will current Security Clearance.
