The Opportunity

As a Lead Data Engineer within our Data & Analytics team, you'll play a key role in shaping and executing Cleanaway’s data strategy. You will lead the delivery of high-impact projects spanning data engineering, reporting, and analytics—directly supporting business-critical initiatives across customer engagement, route optimisation, sales, and pricing.

You’ll guide a team of data engineers while collaborating closely with operations, commercial stakeholders, and external partners to drive smarter, data-informed decisions across the enterprise.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design, development, and optimisation of data solutions within an Azure-based ecosystem
  • Advising on the architecture and implementation of robust, scalable analytics and reporting solutions
  • Contributing to enterprise-wide data architecture strategies and technical design options
  • Ensuring team adherence to Cleanaway’s documentation standards, policies, and governance to streamline onboarding and delivery of analytics projects
  • Collaborating with business users to gather, analyse, and translate requirements into data-driven solutions that deliver measurable outcomes

This is a strategic and hands-on role, ideal for a data engineering professional who thrives on creating business value from data at scale.

About You

You are a forward-thinking, solutions-focused data professional who brings both technical depth and business curiosity. You’re energised by complexity, motivated by impact, and able to lead confidently while collaborating across diverse teams.

You combine a passion for engineering best practices with a mindset of continuous learning and innovation. You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and can communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Strong experience in building and optimising data pipelines, data models, and analytical solutions combining multiple source systems
  • Deep proficiency in Azure-based data engineering tools and frameworks (e.g., Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake)
  • Solid expertise in SQL, ELT methodologies, dimensional modelling, and BI development (dashboards, visualisations, reports)
  • Hands-on experience with Python or PySpark for data transformation and workflow automation
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD (Azure DevOps), automated testing, version control, and documentation standards
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality solutions on time, with strong attention to governance, quality, and operational sustainability

Why join Cleanaway?

  • Competitive salary package
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Career opportunities in a high growth, Australian business
  • Supportive and safe work environment
