The Opportunity
Based in Darwin, NT, the Chemical Specialist role is to provide expert guidance on chemical processes, ensuring the safe, efficient and environmentally compliant handling, treatment and disposal of chemical waste. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, maintaining regulatory compliance and optimising chemical processing methodologies to support safe and sustainable waste management practices.
- Serve as a technical expert for chemical processes in waste treatment facilities.
- Act as a key contact for all Operational staff, ensuring any chemical processing is aligned to business objectives such as safety, environment and efficiency.
- As part of the Chemical Safety and Support team and with other stakeholders, review all chemical processing as required in the work instruction review.
- Provide feedback and guidance in relation to chemical handling, storage & treatment best practice.
- As part of the team, monitor and enforce compliance with regulatory and organisational standards. Conduct audits, inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
About You
Our ideal candidate will be a degree qualified Chemist with a sound understanding of chemical/ laboratory principles and protocols/ methodologies and hands-on experience in managing compliance with industry specific regulations and standards.
- Sound knowledge of waste industry applicable regulations, HSE and process workflows.
- Knowledge of Management of Change and hazard identification tools
- Sound knowledge of compliance & auditing principles, including internal and external audits
- Proficiency in technical concepts and industry practices related to operations, equipment and systems.
- Experience in conducting audits, inspections and implementing corrective actions.
- Excellent analytical testing, troubleshooting and problem solving and optimisation skills
- Ability to work on several initiatives and prioritise appropriately, project and planning skills
- Experience in enforcing safety protocols and meeting health, safety and environmental standards
- Experience in identifying, evaluating and mitigating risks related to safety, quality and regulatory chemical compliance.
