The Opportunity

Based at our Yatala, QLD site, we are seeking an experienced Fitter to join our on-site maintenance team. The Yatala facility processes waste from medical, veterinary, and healthcare facilities across the east coast. The site operates 24/7 and features a range of industrial equipment, including autoclaves, shredders, conveyors, and other mechanical systems.

As a key member of the maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing safety, reliability, and performance of mechanical equipment and systems across the site.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Take ownership of the mechanical maintenance aspects of the site by assisting in the ongoing development and improvement of preventative maintenance plans for all plant and equipment.
  • Safely perform and coordinate mechanical maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on equipment such as autoclaves, conveyors, wash lines, and shredders.
  • Carry out fault finding, troubleshooting, and mechanical adjustments to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimise downtime.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations, Engineering, and Project teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors involved in mechanical servicing, repairs, and upgrades to plant equipment.
  • Manage and complete PM tasks within the Cleanaway CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System)
  • Complete daily operational and safety documentation prior to performing works

About you

  • Qualified and experienced Fitter with a strong mechanical background.
  • Welding and fabrication experience highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and install a range of industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and data/communications systems viewed favourably.
  • Proven ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team or project environment.
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and quality workmanship.
  • Experienced in completing Work Permits, SWMS, and other safety documentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Positive, hands-on approach with a commitment to working in the best interests of Cleanaway and our clients.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Willingness to be available on call outside of normal work hours

Due to the nature of this work, evidence of currency of vaccination or the willingness to receive defined vaccinations is essential. Tetanus and Hepatitis A & B.
