Health & Safety Business Partner Lead

About Us

Join us at Cleanaway and contribute to making a sustainable future possible, together.

We transform waste into resources and renewable energy.  When you start to think of waste as a resource, it opens a world of possibilities.

As a high growth, ASX listed organisation with over 10,000 employees, our goal is to be recognised by our customers as the most innovative and sustainable waste management company with industry leading HSE performance.  We are Australia’s largest company in this sector, providing essential services to millions of customers and communities nationally

About the role

We’re seeking an accomplished and highly credible Health & Safety Business Lead to provide strategic and operational safety leadership across our resource recovery operations. This role is critical in shaping safety culture, strengthening frontline leadership capability, and ensuring consistent, high‑quality HSE practices across multiple sites.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing frontline and operational leaders to take ownership of HSE through coaching, capability uplift, and practical leadership support
  • Supporting risk management, assurance programs, and audit activities to drive consistent and measurable safety improvements
  • Translating safety strategy into practical, site-level execution, empowering leaders rather than doing it for them
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in land transport risk management, our most significant operational risk
  • Maintaining strong site engagement through regular presence, influence, and follow‑up to support continuous improvement

About you

You are a senior safety professional with a proven background in manufacturing or similarly complex industrial environments, comfortable operating at both strategic and frontline levels. You bring credibility, resilience, and sound judgment, and you’re equally effective influencing senior leaders as you are engaging the workforce on the ground. You lead with pragmatism, clarity, and calm authority, and you understand how to balance safety, operational demands, and commercial outcomes.

  • Background in manufacturing, heavy industry, or high‑risk operational environments
  • Extensive experience in HSE leadership roles within complex, multi-site operations
  • Strong technical and practical understanding of land transport safety, ideally supported by hands‑on exposure
  • Confident, authentic communicator with the ability to challenge, influence, and build trust at all levels
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable operating with autonomy
  • A service-oriented mindset with a genuine commitment to supporting frontline teams
  • Self‑driven, resilient, and passionate about delivering real safety outcomes, not just compliance

You’ll love this role if you:

  • Like variety – no two days are the same
  • Enjoy being part of a collaborative team, not working in isolation
  • Want to be known on-site, not just on email
  • Are excited to travel within Melbourne and connect with different teams
