The Opportunity
This is not a typical operational role — it’s a chance to take full ownership of a major, high-volume landfill facility at Kemps Creek, a site that plays a vital role in enabling Greater Sydney to function every day. You will lead diverse teams, guide long-range planning, and embed best practice operational standards across safety, environmental compliance, engineering controls, and site optimisation.
The scale, community importance, and technical complexity of this asset demand a leader of exceptional calibre: someone who thrives on challenge, thinks strategically, and balances commercial acumen with a deep commitment to environmental and community outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of a significant landfill site, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence
- Implement and maintain robust safety systems and environmental controls
- Manage and develop site personnel, including workforce planning and coverage during absences
- Oversee landfill cell development, filling strategies, and optimisation of airspace utilisation
- Monitor and manage leachate, landfill gas, and associated environmental systems
- Resolve operational issues proactively while maintaining service delivery and regulatory compliance
- Drive continuous improvement in site performance, efficiency, and cost management
About You
- Tertiary qualified in Engineering (Civil/Environmental), Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Proven experience managing landfill or heavy industrial operations, ideally within a regulated environment
- Proven ability to lead, develop and coordinate site-based teams, including managing coverage and continuity during absences
- Solid knowledge of environmental compliance, regulatory requirements, and operational governance
- Strong problem-solving capability with the ability to manage day-to-day operational challenges effectively
- Strong commercial acumen with a focus on driving performance, managing costs, and improving operational efficiency.
