About Us
Join us at Cleanaway and contribute to making a sustainable future possible, together.
We transform waste into resources and renewable energy. When you start to think of waste as a resource, it opens a world of possibilities.
As a high growth, ASX listed organisation with over 10,000 employees, our goal is to be recognised by our customers as the most innovative and sustainable waste management company with industry leading HSE performance. We are Australia’s largest company in this sector, providing essential services to millions of customers and communities nationally.
The Opportunity
This is a highly operational, site-based role where you'll spend your time partnering with people in the field, understanding how work gets done, identifying risks, and coaching teams to achieve safe outcomes. We're looking for someone who thrives in an on-site environment, enjoys building relationships, and is passionate about influencing safety through genuine engagement. This is not a desk-based role.
In this role, you'll provide practical safety guidance, lead risk and incident investigations, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure effective controls are in place across a range of operational activities involving dangerous goods, process safety, plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate risk assessments and incident investigations, including ICAM methodology.
- Provide guidance on high-risk activities, dangerous goods, confined spaces, and operational safety risks.
- Support management of change processes and ensure risks are effectively managed.
- Conduct site-based assurance activities, audits, and safety inspections.
- Coach and influence teams to embed safe work practices and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with operational and HSE stakeholders to deliver key safety initiatives and compliance requirements.
About You
You're a naturally curious and approachable safety professional who enjoys being out in operations, working alongside frontline teams, and building trusted relationships across all levels of the business. You understand that the best safety outcomes come from partnering with people, asking the right questions, and developing practical solutions together.
You have a strong background in risk management and incident investigation, with the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective controls in complex operational environments. You're confident engaging with leaders and operators alike, providing practical coaching and influencing positive safety behaviours without relying on authority alone.
- Experience in Health & Safety within manufacturing, industrial processing, transport, waste/resource recovery, chemical processing, or similar operational environments.
- Experience conducting incident investigations, ideally using ICAM methodology.
- A natural relationship builder with the ability to establish trust and positively influence people at all levels.
- Practical, hands-on approach with the confidence to ask questions, challenge constructively, and drive better safety outcomes.
- Comfortable working in a highly visible, site-based, role and engaging directly with frontline operations.
- Excellent communication, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Relevant qualification in Work Health & Safety or a related discipline.
This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys being on site, building strong relationships, and making a tangible difference in operational safety every day.
