The Opportunity

The Chemical Specialist offers expert guidance on chemical processes, ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant handling, treatment, and disposal of chemical waste.  This role is crucial in driving innovation, maintaining regulatory compliance, and optimising chemical processing methodologies to support safe and sustainable waste management practices. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitoring compliance, conducting audits, inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Serving as a technical expert for chemical processes in waste treatment facilities. 
  • Acting as a key contact for all operational staff, ensuring all chemical processing is aligned to safety, environment and efficiency objectives.
  • Reviewing all chemical processing as required in the work instruction review. 
  • Applying metrics and analysing performance data, troubleshooting issues and streamlining operations.
  • Providing input on how to safely and environmentally improve financial outcomes for waste processing

 

 

About You

You are a critical thinker with a technical and curious mindset who enjoys solving problems within a collaborative team.  Additionally, you will also possess.

  • Hands-on experience in managing compliance with industry-specific regulations and standards.
  • A relevant Science or Engineering Degree and demonstrated relevant industry experience.
  • Sound knowledge of waste industry applicable regulations, HSE and process workflows.
  • Solid understanding of chemical laboratory principles, protocols, and methodologies.
  • Experience in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks related to safety, quality, and regulatory chemical compliance. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • The ability to work on several initiatives and prioritise appropriately, project and planning skill.
