The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and proactive National Fleet Safety and Compliance Lead (CoR SME) to drive excellence in fleet safety, compliance and governance across our national operations.
The National Fleet Safety and Compliance Lead is responsible for supporting Cleanaway’s operational teams to meet obligations under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) legislation.
As the process owner of Fleet Compliance Standards, this role will lead the management and reporting of compliance performance, deliver actionable insights, and develop operational capability across the business.
You will implement and embed compliance reporting systems, assurance tools (1LOD and 2LOD), governance practices, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure fleet compliance programs are effective, practical and aligned with our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and embedding of best-practice CoR programs and assurance frameworks to meet or exceed legislative requirements.
- Partner with Operational, HSE, and Fleet teams to operationalise and embed fleet safety compliance systems and standards.
- Oversee NHVAS accreditation programs and support business units to maintain compliance.
- Deliver fleet safety and compliance reporting that identifies gaps, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the coordination of internal and external HVNL/fleet safety audits.
- Provide technical assistance during motor vehicle incident investigations.
- Develop and deploy training packages aligned with Learning & Development programs.
- Implement vehicle incident reduction strategies and compliance campaigns.
- Leverage in-cabin technologies, such as telematics and IVMS, to monitor and improve compliance with CoR standards.
- Maintain activities within the Fleet Safety & Compliance team budget.
About You
- Extensive experience in Fleet Operations, Transport, and/or Safety Compliance roles.
- Proven expertise in fleet safety compliance and assurance programs related to HVNL & CoR.
- Strong understanding of compliance reporting systems, data analysis, and operating systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience developing and delivering training.
- Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to meet milestones in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders across all levels of the business.
