About Your Opportunity
As the Cultural Heritage Officer, you will provide technical advice and support to ensure Seqwater complies with legislative, policy and Duty of Care obligations in managing non-Indigenous and Indigenous heritage matters. You will assist in developing cultural heritage compliance systems, promote awareness across the business, and ensure sustainable, balanced practices are implemented. You will also contribute to capital and operational programs to ensure regulatory compliance and engage with Traditional Owner groups and statutory authorities to establish initiatives and agreements.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement cultural heritage compliance systems, including databases, GIS systems, procedures, guides, and training materials.
- Provide expert technical advice on cultural heritage compliance for capital and operational programs impacting Indigenous and non-Indigenous heritage.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Traditional Owner groups, Heritage Groups, and statutory authorities to support compliance initiatives.
- Conduct cultural heritage studies and develop management plans for priority areas and key locations.
- Support incident management and organisational initiatives, including the Emergency Response Plan and Reconciliation Action Plan, ensuring cultural heritage compliance is upheld.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Degree in archaeology, heritage management, heritage conservation, anthropology, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in a directly relevant role, including providing technical advice on Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural heritage.
- Strong understanding of applicable legislation and cultural heritage practices.
- Experience working with Traditional Owner groups and organisations, with the ability to negotiate sustainable outcomes.
- High-level interpersonal and written communication skills across disciplines and levels.
- Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision and effectively manage competing priorities.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity with a salary range of $108,332.25 - $119,130.76 (dependent on experience) plus 12.75% superannuation.
