About Your Opportunity

As the Senior Land Use Planner, you will deliver effective and efficient delivery of planning outputs through development assessment and contributing to State and local planning instrument review and implementation, the integration of land use planning within built asset planning and management, and the provision of technical input internally and professional best practice catchment advice externally to stakeholders on the future use of Seqwater’s property portfolio and adjoining catchment lands, including advice on strategic land use planning and recreation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assess and respond to development applications affecting Seqwater’s four (4) State Interests and other business operations, in line with statutory planning and internal requirements.
  • Provide specialist advice on planning regulations and undertake reviews and implementation of State and Local planning instruments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and proactively engage with South East Queensland Councils to ensure effective and well-informed outcomes.
  • Prepare internal written reports and briefings, and formal correspondence to external parties, advancing Seqwater’s interests in land use planning and related matters.
  • Maintain accurate development application records and contribute to process improvements around development assessment workloads. 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:  

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or urban and regional planning.
  • Minimum of 7 years recent, continuous experience in planning development assessment for a Queensland Local Council and/or State Government agency.
  • An unrestricted C Class Driver’s licence.
  • Ability to drive and negotiate favourable planning outcomes with external stakeholders.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in development application assessment and strategic planning, including negotiation, judgement, and problem-solving based on planning principles.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of the Queensland Planning Framework, particularly processes for development assessment and approvals under the Planning Act 2016 and Planning Regulation 2017.
  • Ability to commence with immediate productivity in a high workload development assessment setting, under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn assessment of plumbing applications for domestic (decentralised) on-site wastewater management facilities and the design requirements of AS/NZS1547:2012 – On-site Domestic Wastewater Management.
  • Ability to proactively identify and address challenges and carry out tasks with accuracy and precision.

The position is a full-time, fixed-term contract for two years, with a salary ranging from $122,730.25 - $133,528.77 per annum plus 12.75% superannuation.
