Job Summary: The Library Technician provides a wide variety of technical duties and customer assistance in support of library services in an operational unit or section of a university library. Uses library's automation system, various software packages, conventional library materials, and office equipment. May oversee the work of students and volunteers. Exercises judgment in the interpretation and application of library practices, rules, and regulations.


Additional Department Summary: The Library Technician helps patrons access information resources at the Health Sciences Library for the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS). Aids patrons in finding and utilizing library resources. Provides basic instruction regarding the use of various online library databases. Assists CCHS faculty, medical students, residents, and other clinical learners with location of research materials.

Promotes a welcoming environment to support discovery as the library champions the College’s mission of teaching, research, and high-quality healthcare. Provides administrative support and data entry for record keeping, financial operations, and online access to library resources.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of library experience; OR associate's degree or higher and some library experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of library organization and use of library cataloging and information systems. of basic reference skills,
Working knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skill in organizing work to achieve department goals and objectives. Excellent public relations, customer service, and telephone etiquette skills. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Ability to work on multiple, ongoing projects, prioritize tasks, and meet stated deadlines. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.


Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge experience with medical terminology preferred.
