Position Summary
The Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design at the University of Alabama (UA) invites candidates to submit applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track, on-campus position at the rank of Instructor in the Interior Design Program.


Detailed Position Information
The Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design at the University of Alabama (UA) invites candidates to submit applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track, on-campus position at the rank of Instructor in the Interior Design Program. The position will close on February 7th, 2025. The Interior Design Program is a Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited program that provides a sequential studio learning environment that focuses on critical aspects of interior design. Faculty teach lecture and studio courses and engage in service to the University and the community.
The successful candidate must be able to:
• Teach a typical class load of four courses per semester (a 4/4 course load).
• Work with faculty to maintain all program accreditations.
• Provide service to the University, College, and community.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Applicant must have completed an MFA or Master’s degree (M.A., MID, M.S., M. Arch, etc.) in interior design or have a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline.
2. Candidate must demonstrate an ability to teach interior design courses from the following areas: residential and/or commercial interior design studios, building codes and regulatory compliance, materials and methods of building construction, interior materials and sources, professional practice, sustainable design, and hand or digital rendering.
3. Applicant must demonstrate proficiency in providing instruction in Revit and/or AutoCAD through teaching experience, work history, and/or certification.
4. Applicant must demonstrate proficiency in Enscape or other rendering and visualization programs and Adobe Creative Cloud programs, such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro. Experience with 3D fabrication is desirable.
5. Applicant should maintain membership in one or more academic or professional organizations, such as IIDA, ASID, NKBA, and IDEC.
6. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
7. Must be eligible to work in the United States prior to the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of the appointment. This position does not support sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous teaching experience in higher education and professional design experience in interior design or architecture is preferred. 2. NCIDQ certification, or certification completed shortly after the hiring date, is preferred. 3. Candidates holding LEED, WELL, EDAC, or other accreditations are preferred.
