Job Summary: The Programmer Analyst III designs, develops, supports, and codes moderate- to high-complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the University under minimal supervision. This may include enterprise and highly critical applications. Develops processes and web applications. Creates workflows. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems. Works on a team and collaborates with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus. Supports their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.


Additional Department Summary: Designs, develops, and supports moderate to high complexity software systems to support the administrative function of the university under minimal supervision. This may include enterprise and highly critical applications. Develops processes and web applications using Oracle PL/SQL and Oracle APEX. Creates workflows scheduled through AppWorx. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems, including Ellucian Banner (General, Student, and Financial Aid), DegreeWorks, ISSM, SARS, and Mercury. Analyzes and resolves problems arising with the use of software systems. Works on a team and collaborates with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus; including University Registrar, Financial Aid, Enrollment Management (Admissions, Scholarships, Orientation), Honors College, and Housing; supporting their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of IT programming experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of IT programming experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming; OR High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Experience supporting moderately complex systems and troubleshooting application issues. Substantial level of programming knowledge and ability, ideally with Oracle PL/SQL. Considerable experience with relational databases and an ability to write and analyze SQL queries and reports, and ability to analyze table data structures.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and work with customer groups and users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. Ability to manage work tasks using Atlassian JIRA tickets and follow through to completion. Effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Troubleshooting skills to independently learn of, analyze, track, and resolve issues. Ability to implement departmental and critical third-party applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation, to successfully install and take on support for an application.


Preferred Qualifications: High level of experience supporting or working with higher education and University of Alabama administrative applications and tools, such as Ellucian Banner, DegreeWorks, SARS, Mercury, Anthology Learn, AppWorx, JIRA, TOAD, SSMS, GIT and Oracle APEX. Substantial experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases and familiarity with the creation and management of database objects including tables, triggers, indexes, and procedures. Ability to analyze database tables, understand how tables and data connect, and analyze patterns in the data to gain insights. Knowledge and experience with web development concepts, including experience with HTML, XML, JSON, Javascript, and MVC concepts. Base knowledge and experience managing Windows Server applications, including IIS management and configuration and a base knowledge of Linux commands. Experience with other programming concepts including restful APIs, shell scripting, and managing flat file data feeds. High level of experience with working with customers, gathering and analyzing requirements.
