Job Summary: The Assistant Construction Project Manager coordinates small construction and renovation projects from the project initiation request to one-year inspection. Provides support to project manager. Provides schedule oversight, financial standing, and quality performance evaluation of the construction team for assigned projects


Additional Department Summary: The Assistant Construction Project Manager provides management services as the owners' representation for specific projects which include schedule oversight, financial standing and quality performance evaluation of the construction team for assigned projects. Works with the Project Manager to ensure proper project controls are in place to support a successful project outcome. Supports Deans, Directors, Department Heads, and other groups in developing project goals and requirements. Works with internal partners, consultants, architects, engineers, general/prime contractors, subcontractors, and other agencies to support all efforts in achieving the goals of the project. Assists the PM with project specific assignments to gain exposure to large projects; to train in operations of construction administration; and to make a positive impact on the campus.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in construction, engineering, or project management; OR master's degree and some experience in construction, engineering, or project management.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions. Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must be able to carry out the physical requirements of the job which may include climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding. Must work at heights above thirty (30) feet on a regular basis.


Skills and Knowledge: Must have a willingness to learn the construction industry and develop personal skills for dealing with all the varied companies and individuals encountered. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language. Must have an understanding of project plans, specifications and other documents. Must gain understanding of State Bid Laws, project documentation, Project Manager Manual and be willing to show continuous improvement. Must be proficient with personal computers to include word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications.


Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, Business or related field. Experience in construction, engineering or technical field, or management.
