Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary: Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) (ciroh.ua.edu) consists of a consortium of 28 academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and government and industry partners bringing together a powerful team of hydrologic researchers across the United States and Canada. CIROH is headquartered at the University of Alabama and funded under the auspices of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). CIROH’s research activities are tightly linked to research to operation activities at the NOAA National Water Center, co-located on the University's campus.
The position is part of a large, multi-institution, project to advance the remote sensing of freshwater resources. Leads remote sensing data collection, field data acquisition, field and remote sensing data processing and management, algorithm development and implementation. The research will be conducted at the Environmental Remote Sensing Laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Hongxing Liu in the Department of Geography and the Environment.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in geography, geological sciences, civil engineering, or other related areas.

Skills and Knowledge: Research expertise in geospatial modeling and water remote sensing. Technical skills in computer programming and algorithm development and implementation.
Preferred Qualifications: High level of achievement in related research productivity and academic writing. Remote water sensing experience. Python programming experience. Drone and boat-based surveys experience. Geo-computation and modeling experience.
