Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; occasional evenings & weekends


Job Summary: The Accommodations Specialist I provides the delivery of support services and the determination and provision of reasonable accommodations for University students with disabilities under general supervision. Ensures compliance with relevant legal mandates. Advocates for University student needs.


Additional Department Summary: The Office of Disability Services is the compliance and advocacy office for students with disabilities seeking academic accommodations. The Accommodations Specialist performs activities relating to the delivery of support services and the determination and provision of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some experience working with disabilities; OR master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, psychometry, school counseling, or law.


Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 as applied to postsecondary education.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a variety of constituents (students, faculty/staff, and colleagues). Highly developed organizational skills. Ability to manage a complex caseload. Ability to learn and proficiently use an electronic record system. Ability to read and evaluate complex medical, psychological, and psychoeducational documentation. Ability to synthesize documentation information along with the student’s self-report to determine reasonable accommodations based on substantial limitations. Ability to lead meetings with prospective and enrolled students with disabilities and their families. Effectively assess the student’s needs and communicate procedures and mutual responsibilities.

Targeted case management skills that includes communicating with faculty and staff to negotiate and verify accommodations relevant to specific course requirements, addressing student concerns and referring to appropriate on- and off-campus resources.
