Job Summary: The Admissions Associate I provides clerical and administrative support for the admissions and scholarship processes under close supervision. Processes and reviews applications, transcripts, and test scores. Prepares admissions reports. Communicates with prospective students and guardians.


Additional Department Summary: The successful candidate will join an admissions and recruitment team that has been charged, as part of the university’s strategic plan, with significantly increasing graduate enrollment at The University of Alabama, one of the fastest growing universities in the country. The Admissions Counselor works with prospects and applicants during the initial stages of the application process. Responsibilities include: 1) Advising students directly with application, degree program, and general Graduate School admissions questions; 2) Corresponding with applicants to clarify and resolve any issues; 3) Collating and reviewing application materials; 4) Primary receptionist and greeter for Graduate School office; and 5) Other duties related to record-keeping and Graduate School activities. The successful candidate will work as a forward-thinking member of a collaborative and ambitious team that is focused on growth in both quality and quantity of students. As part of our commitment to serving applicants in the best possible fashion, they will communicate daily with prospective students to ensure that they have all the information necessary to make an informed decision.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Application materials must include: 1) a full and updated resume or CV, and 2) a cover letter summarizing the interest in the position and how the minimum qualifications and any preferred qualifications are met.


Skills and Knowledge: An admissions counselor must have evidence of the following skills: 1) Attention to detail in all aspects of their work; 2) Proficiency in MS Office; 3) Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking is required; and 4) Good written and oral communication skills to ensure affective communication with prospective students, applicants, staff, faculty, and teammates.


Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications are: 1) An earned bachelor’s degree at the time of application; 2) Experience with student admissions counseling; and 3) Proficiency in enterprise software such as Banner and Slate.
