Job Summary: The College Research Coordinator I assists researchers and staff within a department, unit, or college with proposal preparation and review, proposal budget development, award administration, and related activities under general supervision. Provides guidance on compliance with Federal, State, and Local government regulations related to pre-award and/or post-award sponsored project activities. Participates in training as required by the Office for Research & Economic Development and serves as a liaison for the college to ORED.
Additional Department Summary: Works in the College of Education’s Office of Research and Service to provide pre-award and post-award assistance to assigned departments, centers, faculty and staff regarding the development, submission and management of external grants and contracts. Assists with contract and grant proposal development, budgeting, preparation and submission, as well as the monitoring of awarded funds. Performs various document preparation, data management, and accounting activities of medium to high complexity in support of the College’s contract and grant efforts. Prepares related reports for various constituents.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent writing, data management, bookkeeping, and critical thinking skills. Strong organizational skills as evidenced by work history. Ability to work independently using sound judgment and solid decision-making skills to solve complex problems and to work through barriers that may impact progress. Experience in evaluation and performance analysis and tracking of revenues and expenditures. Ability to work well with faculty, staff members, and other project stakeholders. Ability to effectively work in a team environment. Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other office productivity and statistical software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prepare grant and contract proposal documents and post-award reports. Demonstrated experience in collaborating with funding agencies, University staff and faculty, and education leaders and other outside project stakeholders. Ability to master University on-line financial and human resource systems, as well as any specialized software needed to perform the duties and job responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of professional experience in a higher education environment. Prior experience in writing grant proposals, developing budgets and budget narratives for grant proposals, working with computer-based grant submission and management software, and expenditure tracking. Experience in working with federal state and institutional contract and grant guidelines, project management, project evaluation, financial analysis, and reporting and research project compliance.
