Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm; some shift work & extended hours
Job Summary: The Fire Protection Mechanic performs highly skilled work in the inspection, operational/functional testing, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of fire protection systems.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of inspection, operational/functional testing, and repair of fire protection systems experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have NICET level II certification in the Inspection and Testing of Fire Protection Systems; OR ability to pass NICET level II certification in the Inspection and Testing of Fire Protection Systems within six (6) months of hire date.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to lift, handle and maneuver the tools, materials, and supplies of the job. Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans and do material takeoffs. Good people skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Good written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory/work leadership experience.
