Job Summary: The Athletic Academic Certification Coordinator monitors student-athlete curriculum and eligibility information. Provides academic progress tracking. Ensures initial eligibility determinations by completing matriculation letters at the request of the compliance office, monitoring the NCAA Eligibility Center for updates, and reviewing the academic and amateurism certifications of incoming student-athletes. Determines the transferability of potential student-athletes (PSA) under institutional, SEC, and NCAA requirements.
Additional Department Summary: Serves as the primary liaison from the Office of the University Registrar to the Bill Battle Academic Center and UA Compliance. Plays a critical role in maintaining the institutional compliance required for continued participation in all NCAA sanctioned events, competitions, and post-season play. Collaborates with UA Compliance and Transfer Credit staff to determine the transferability of all potential student-athletes. Collects and verifies data for the submission of the NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR) reports. Works in conjunction with University Recreation to facilitate certification of all club sport teams, cheerleading squads, and the university dance team.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising or student academic record experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising or student academic record experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to develop and maintain strong interpersonal professional relationships. Skilled in the use of computer applications, particularly spreadsheet, database, and reporting software. Ability to learn NCAA and university-specific software programs. Ability to set priorities, complete assignments, and deliver eligibility information in a time-sensitive manner. Ability to work with and maintain confidential information with the highest level of ethical standards. Ability to interpret and apply university curriculum and degree requirements in the context of individual student needs. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the SEC and NCAA. Knowledge of Banner, Degree Works, and Argos.
