Job Summary: The Proposal Development Specialist locates and submits proposals for external funding by researching and disseminating information on funding opportunities. Ensures compliance with all applicable policies and guidelines.
Additional Department Summary: The Alabama Mobility & Power (AMP) Center at The University of Alabama is seeking a dynamic and strategically minded candidate to advance AMP’s mission at the intersection of research, workforce development, and industry engagement. This position plays a dual role: ensuring the effective management and delivery of funded projects and programming, while also supporting partnerships that connect AMP’s expertise to industry, government, and academic collaborators.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of proposal/contract/research project development experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of proposal/contract/research project development experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience engaging with external stakeholders. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment. Demonstrated ability to coordinate proposal development processes and support faculty or research teams. Strong organizational and project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience in research administration, program management, or partnership development.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in or with academic research organizations. Familiarity with federal, state, or industry funding mechanisms and proposal processes. Knowledge of emerging technologies related to transportation, energy, or advanced manufacturing. Proven ability to facilitate collaborations among academia, industry, and government. Proficiency with data tracking and analytics tools for managing proposals, projects, and partnerships.
