Job Summary: The Veterans and Military Affairs Specialist provides parents and students with information regarding the many options available under the Veterans Administration Educational Benefits. Provides timely, accurate, and complete certifications within the VA Once system. Advises students thoroughly on the type of benefits they may receive, the terms of the benefits, the length of the benefits, and the consequences of not complying with all VA policies and procedures. Interfaces with the staff in Student Receivables and Academic Records and academic advisers across campus.
Additional Department Summary: The Veteran and Military Affairs Specialist provides parents and students with information regarding the many options available under the Veterans Administration Educational Benefits. Provides timely, accurate, and complete certifications within the Enrollment Manager system. Advises students on the type of benefits they may receive, the terms of the benefits, the length of the benefits, and the consequences of not complying with all VA policies and procedures. Interfaces with the staff in Student Receivables and Academic Records as well as with academic advisers across campus. Provides a high quality of consumer information and customer service to students and their parents. Completes GI Bill certifications accurately. Works independently and is required to make professional judgment calls per VA and University policy guidance. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher. Must obtain clearance and be authorized by the Veterans Administration on a yearly basis to become and remain an active SCO (School Certifying Official).
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to travel to conferences to remain current and expand knowledge base. Must obtain clearance and be authorized by the Veterans Administration on a yearly basis to become and remain an active SCO (School Certifying Official).
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills. Good organizational, communication, and public relation skills. Ability to multi-task, stay on task, focus, and be detailed oriented. Ability to explain complex regulations to various UA publics. Ability to identify and seek out resources when additional knowledge is required for unusual situations (University staff, VA state, VA regional). Proficiency in the usage of personal computer and standard applications software (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management programs).

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to comprehend and interact with complex enterprise management systems - Banner (Student Receivables and Academic Records components) and Enrollment Manager (Federal VA benefits certification). Knowledge of veterans benefit programs. Ability to perform complex financial calculations.
