Job Summary: The Research Project Coordinator supports the overall development of research project(s). Assists with project design, management, and implementation. Promotes the project and serves as liaison between the project and contacts internal and external to the University. May supervise students, provide general office assistance, create promotional materials, and assist in the development of other potential projects.
Additional Department Summary: Supports the overall goals and objectives of research projects for the Department of Community Medicine and Population Health for the College of Community Health Sciences. Leads and supervises study-related staff, assigns project tasks and evaluates progress to ensure project goals are being met. Communicates progress, reporting and general study efforts to Principal Investigator (PI) and study leadership.
Assists with project design, management and implementation. Ensures that the day-to-day operations of research projects are completed according to stated guidelines and timelines. Partners with the Project Investigators to achieve the goals of funded programs and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Communicates and coordinates activities with multiple state agencies, universities, federal funding agencies. Assists with preparation of reports.
Provides input in the development of the program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, and report writing.
This position is part of the UA research team for the Healthy Brain and Child Development Study (HBCD), and requires working in partnership with The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and other sites in this large, nation-wide study. Requires a flexible, non-traditional schedule to meet participants’ scheduling needs and research protocol goals. Coordination of support services will require some evening and weekend hours. Occasional out-of-state travel for training required.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience coordinating projects.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Experience providing health/social services support, education or research for or with pregnant people, children, and/or young families.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Ability to work independently within the assigned scope of work, identifying and performing a wide variety of activities that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to anticipate and plan proactively for known deadlines and annual cycles. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, and follow HIPPA regulations at all times. Ability to travel to UAB and other study sites as needed. Ability to work flexible hours.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in health administration, business, healthcare, psychology, or neuroscience preferred. Previous experience working in a healthcare and or higher education environment. Experience working in large team settings. Experience in research and managing projects, including budgeting and tracking expenditures. Familiarity with West Alabama communities and local resources.
