Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary: The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at The University of Alabama is a seeking candidate for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in rare earth metals processing.
The College and/or the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity and funding.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in chemistry or a related field. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.

Skills and Knowledge: Experience with synthesis of complex inorganic and materials, structural characterization, and quantitative thermodynamic and thermophysical analysis and process-driven structure–property relationships, metallurgy, or chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong analytical skills are beneficial, including but not limited to XRD, IR, SEM-EDS, TGA, DTA, and electrochemical techniques. Experience with data visualization and analysis software.
