Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary: Develops and conducts information sessions, mock interviews, job fairs, lunch & learns, webinars, career prep workshops, leadership training, resume reviews, and career coaching, both on and off campus; responds to telephone and online requests for information; plans and delivers presentations to students (within and out of state); advises individual students and student organizations; and plans and organizes student-focused groups. Serves as a point of contact for university department chairs, community partners, and social services agencies in Alabama and neighboring states.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and writing. Ability to work effectively with the School’s administrators, staff, students, and faculty. Ability to use standard software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and UA student advising software.
Preferred Qualifications: MSW degree. Experience in Career Services. Two (2) years of advising or student services related experience. Experience with Degree works and Banner.
