Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant III maintains accurate financial records. Provides accounting and bookkeeping support. Assists University staff in understanding industry standards, current laws, and university policy as it relates to the financial affairs of the University. Provides guidance, trains, and/or may supervise entry-level Accounting Assistants.
Additional Department Summary: Monitors the general ledger accounts, financial reports, journal entry maintenance and reconciliation of all Libraries' accounts. Provides additional budget reports and provides financial accounting support. Assists the Director of Financial Affairs with budgeting issues. Attends financial and procurement meetings and serves as a liaison to other departments on campus such as Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Advancement, Purchasing and Contract Management. Assists with all travel expense reports and reimbursements for all Library faculty and administrative personnel. Processes all orders for computer equipment and furnishings for University Libraries. Maintains spreadsheets for the cost of building security, postage, and income. Processes budget changes, journal entries and departmental transfers. Maintains a spreadsheet for memberships and recurring commitments, ensuring we meet our renewal dates. Monitors gift and endowment funds by receiving forecasted gains/losses for endowment income.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR bachelor's degree.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties. Excellent organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Excel, Banner modules, Word, Voyager, Axiom, Web-based systems, email. Understanding of University spending guidelines, travel polices, standing contract, bids and allowable expenditures on p-card.
