Job Summary: The Application Manager leads the Application Management Team within the Shared Capabilities group of the Capstone Convergence program. Provides the leadership and governance structure required to coordinate configuration and security decisions to be made by the SMEs across functional units, ensuring consistent application of institutional standards and the convergence principles of the ERP program.
Additional Department Summary: The University of Alabama is embarking to transition its on-premises finance and HCM ERP systems to a modern cloud platform. The Application Manager leads the Application Management Team within the Shared Capabilities group of the Capstone Convergence program. This team is responsible for Workday security administration, support, and coordination of enterprise-wide configuration among the functional Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and cross-application process design. This position is time-limited to the duration of the project, but could lead to regular employment at the University.
Oversees the maintenance and continuous improvement of cross-functional Workday configurations, security functions, access controls, permissions, and global configuration. Ensures effective communication and reporting to stakeholders, supports collaboration across functional lines of business, and works closely with Capstone Convergence leadership to maintain alignment with institutional priorities.
Provides leadership and supervisory oversight to a team of 5–6 professionals who design, configure, test, and deploy system changes in Workday and related ERP technologies. Defines the guiding principles for product support, develops and implements strategies to maximize product value, and enables an optimized user experience. Acts as a coach and mentor, allocates resources effectively, and serves as an early escalation point for risks or issues requiring intervention from business leadership.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of IT experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of IT experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated experience bringing innovative solutions to meet complex business objectives, with ability to translate strategic vision into operational execution. Strong ability to communicate effectively with varied audiences; skilled in presenting information in different settings and modalities. Proven ability to lead teams, model effective leadership behaviors, and build strong working relationships with executive leaders, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports. Solid understanding of organizational dynamics, industry drivers, and the ability to work effectively in environments with a variety stakeholder interests. Demonstrated success managing people and resources, achieving outcomes, and delivering high-quality customer service. Familiarity with the unique needs and challenges of a complex higher-education environment, especially a multi-university system led by a flagship research institution.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience leading solution analysis and definition for cross-functional processes and functions within a complex SaaS (Software as a Service) application such as Workday, Salesforce, or other technologies.
