Job Summary: The Groundskeeping Spray Technician Team Lead assists with the supervision and training of Groundskeeping Spray Technicians and other Grounds employees. Applies herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers in roadsides, ditches, easements, ornamental plants, etc. Inventories, distributes, stores, and purchases herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Mixes herbicides and chemicals for the purpose of spraying. Calibrates computer equipment and calculates percentages desired in the mix of various herbicides. Plans and carries out work, resolving any problems in accordance with instructions, policies, accepted practices, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances. Drives vehicles from site to site.
Additional Department Summary: Shifts may exceed 8 hours per day depending on the condition of the grounds and campus event schedules. Performs work at various locations, including events such as football games. Requires overtime, sometimes on short notice.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of herbicide, landscaping, or groundskeeping experience. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry groundskeeping equipment for prolonged periods. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications: Alabama Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Applicator certification or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
