Job Summary: The Tree Trimmer Team Lead coordinates and leads the daily activities of the tree trimming crew engaged in pruning, trimming, removal, storm response, and general tree maintenance operations across campus. Provides leadership, technical guidance, and operational support to crew members while monitoring productivity, workmanship, and overall job performance. Oversees and performs tree pruning and maintenance operations in accordance with ANSI A300 tree pruning standards and industry best practices. Operates specialized equipment and vehicles used for tree maintenance. Performs advanced climbing, blocking, rigging, cabling, and bracing techniques to safely remove or lower limbs and tree sections while minimizing risk to pedestrians, vehicles, buildings, utilities, athletic venues, and surrounding campus landscapes. Works closely with Horticulturists to identify and plan work activities.
Additional Department Summary: Supervises a crew of 1-6 employees as needed. Provides necessary training and will act as a lead worker. Works on-call, early hours, weekends, special events, and holidays as needed.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of arborist or tree trimmer experience. Must have valid U.S. class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work overtime. Ability to work long days on your feet, including standing, walking, lifting, and carrying. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to obtain Arborist certification from the International Society of Arboriculture within six (6) months of hire.
