Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.


Additional Department Summary: The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks to hire multiple Postdoctoral Researchers to support externally funded interdisciplinary research initiatives within the Human-Centered Intelligent Systems Initiative and the Laboratory for Normative & Cultural Studies of Emerging Technologies (LANCSET), under the direction of Dr. Qin Zhu.

The postdoctoral scholars will contribute to research projects related to human-robot interaction, AI governance and ethics, technology policy, and AI and robot literacy education. Responsibilities may include conducting collaborative research; participating in proposal development and manuscript preparation; assisting with data collection, analysis, and project reporting; mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants; coordinating project activities; and supporting interdisciplinary collaborations across research teams.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should hold a PhD in information science, engineering education, science and technology studies, communication, human-computer interaction, computer science, technology policy, or related interdisciplinary areas.


Skills and Knowledge: The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong research and writing skills, training in AI ethics and technology governance, experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments, and interest in socially responsible approaches to emerging technologies.
