Job Summary: The Business Consulting Program Manager provides technical assistance services. Develops program goals. Oversees business creations, access to capital, business expansion, and job creation.
Additional Department Summary: Serves as the senior counselor to provide leadership, technical assistance, and training to existing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in response to their specific needs. Maintains an active client referral network and serves as a key small business resource for local economic development, civic, government, and business organizations within a regional territory. Works with a high volume of business owners and entrepreneurs on a weekly and monthly basis to assess needs, understand challenges, and offer solutions for small business start-up and growth.
The primary service territory for this position is Central, West, and Rural Alabama. Assignments may also be made to the Business Consulting Program Manager to provide assistance to SBDC clients located in other parts of the state.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of business consulting experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of business consulting experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Library research skills. Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a business related field and at least five (5) years of management experience; OR master's degree in a business related field and three (3) years of management experience. Experience as a small business owner and or business consultant in dealing with the challenges of operating a small business and offering creative solutions in the areas of business planning, marketing, finance, and accounting. Experience with Small Business Administration guaranty lending programs. Experience with financial institutions and economic development organizations.
