Job Summary: The Instructional Designer IV provides expert level guidance and management for a specific aspect of instructional design, such as accessibility, etc. Works with faculty and other content experts to create robust and interactive online courses for complex credit and non-credit courses using sound online pedagogy under limited supervision. Works one-on-one with faculty member to identify course learning objectives, teaching methodologies, assessment tools, and other parameters necessary for development of basic courses. Assigns, reviews, guides, and manages instructional design projects to ensure successful completion of course development in the prescribed timeframe. Mentors lower-level Instructional Designers in course development and implementation work.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of instructional design, interactive technology, or technical support experience; OR master’s degree and four (4) years of instructional design, interactive technology, or technical support experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must clear the fingerprint/background check required by the Alabama State Department of Education for work with the ACCESS Virtual Learning Initiative.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to understand, implement, and train others in web/new media content preparation, presentation and production. Ability to implement instructional technology tools for online content preparation, presentation and production. Ability to work with clientele and translate their instructional technology needs.


Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in distance learning technology in higher education or K-12 environments with knowledge of learning management systems Moodle and D2L. This experience may include teaching, training, multimedia authoring, curriculum development, website development, or IT experience.
