Individuals will be hired into a specialized assignment at the level of their current Police Officer classification.
Job Summary: The Police Officer I - Gulf Coast Regional Task Force (GCRTF) performs law enforcement duties, under moderate supervision, at both the state and federal level by conducting fugitive investigations and providing warrant services as necessary. Conducts interviews and interrogations, processes crime scenes, collects and analyzes evidence, executes search warrants, and prepares detailed reports and court testimonies.
Additional Department Summary: Works from the federal courthouse in downtown Tuscaloosa. Drives a University vehicle. Must meet and adhere to the established guidelines for the use of a UAPD assigned take-home vehicle.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Police Officer I: Must be a current Police Officer I in good standing at the University of Alabama. Must have received a “meets expectations” or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Must be able to pass an in-depth background check conducted by the Department of Justice and be able to obtain all necessary security clearances.
Police Officer II: Must be a current Police Officer II in good standing at the University of Alabama. Must have received a “meets expectations” or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Skills and Knowledge: Skills and knowledge related to being a Police Officer. Ability to analyze and cross reference data obtained through investigations and locate relative commonalities and patterns. Sound tactics when serving warrants. A strong understanding of the Fourth Amendment. Ability to demonstrate courage and take responsibility. Ability to communicate and coordinate with a multitude of agencies nationwide. Sound tactical proficiency. High level of physical fitness. Willingness to enter thick wooded areas, swamps, any other terrain commonly found in the southeast portion of the United States. Ability to blend in with the general public. Must be available able for on-call duty, extended hours, and rapidly evolving situations.
Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years of law enforcement experience as a sworn police officer. Experience working in a small team unit in both close quarters and open terrain. High level of experience and training with firearms (both rifle and handgun), as well as the utilization of a ballistic shield. Experience in land navigation and tracking. Experience working in high-risk, high-stress situations. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
