Job Summary: The University Brand Specialist maintains the operations and administration of the branding and licensing approval process. Provides consultation, education, and guidance to faculty, staff, and student organizations. Provides editorial and proofing oversight for marketing and advertising materials developed by the Division of Strategic Communications and other University entities. Ensures all logos, colors, graphics, photos, and text conform to UA brand guidelines, editorial guidelines, and AI use guidelines. Maintains brand integrity for all marketing, advertising, and promotional materials. Tracks and reports metrics related to brand approval and proofreading requests.
Additional Department Summary: Reviews, approves, and makes recommendations as it pertains to all marketing, advertising, signage, and promotional/apparel items submitted through the branding and licensing approval form. Ensures drafts adhere to AP Style, the University Editorial Style Guide, and client preferences, while complying with applicable University policies, procedures, and guidelines. Serves as quality control to ensure all marketing, advertising, and promotional collateral represent the brand in a professional, concise, and authentic manner. Maintains strong relationships with Purchasing, Trademark Licensing, and communications and marketing professionals throughout campus.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of licensing, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, and/or brand management experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of licensing, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, and/or brand management experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Sound knowledge of branding principles, brand systems, design standards, and visual storytelling. Strong editing skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks on tight deadlines. Excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of Associated Press style. Understanding of ethical use of AI.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a higher education setting. Working knowledge of the CLC Brand Manager system. Familiarity with University of Alabama brand standards, brand voice, and editorial guidelines. Experience with the Basecamp project management platform. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, with an emphasis on Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
