Job Summary: The Network Engineer IV supports the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide mission critical University networks by performing network engineering and under close supervision. Performs high-complexity operational network management and maintenance tasks. Participates in network problem identification, analysis, and resolution for high-complexity problems. Leads and contributes to strategy, planning, and design of the campus and wide-area networks. Provides guidance, training, and/or supervision to other Network Engineers.
Additional Department Summary: This is a technology leadership position responsible for engineering and architecture of the UA network, with a focus on the new High Performance Computing Center. This position performs and directs advanced campus network layer 2 & 3 engineering, design, deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and administration. Responsibilities may include leading strategic planning and implementation of network changes, managing/purchasing switch/router fleet, creating campus network policy, managing the university’s ISP connectivity and WAN/Internet connectivity, supporting integration of educational, administrative, and research applications with campus networks and/or designing networks for new campus building construction depending upon experience. Some on-call required.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and four (4) years of network engineering experience; OR bachelor's degree and six (6) years of network engineering experience; OR associate's degree and eight (8) years of IT experience to include six (6) years of network engineering; OR high school diploma or GED and ten (10) years of IT experience to include six (6) years of network engineering.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Senior engineering level skills with CISCO routing and switching (VLAN/VRF), WAN routing (BGP, route leaking) and data center networks. Extensive experience with advanced LAN network concepts, design, management, security, performance, and operations. Extensive experience with Internet services and applications within the IP suite (DHCP, DNS, etc.). Experience with IT procurement. Experience with higher education network consortiums (SOX, Internet2, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and eight (8) years of experience in network engineering. CCNA certification preferred. Experience with new building construction data layer architecture. Experience in software-defined networks. Nexus gear and Nexus dashboard experience.
