Job Summary: The Manager of Security Resources provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the University Security Resources department under limited supervision. Manages departmental operations, administrative functions, workforce development, and employee lifecycle activities for multiple shifts. Ensures effective security services that support the safety and security of the University community, including responses to physical security, access control, and safety concerns.
Additional Department Summary: Must be able to work extended and irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, emergencies, and major University events, as needed. Must be able to respond to changing staffing and operational needs with limited notice.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in safety, security, law enforcement, military security, emergency services, protective services, or a related field; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of experience in safety, security, law enforcement, military security, emergency services, protective services, or a related field; OR high school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of experience in safety, security, law enforcement, military security, emergency services, protective services, or a related field. Post-Offer Requirements: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen and must successfully complete a psychological evaluation resulting in a satisfactory determination of psychological fitness for duty in accordance with applicable federal and state law. Post-Hire Requirements: Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background check conducted in compliance with applicable law.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of the principles and methods of building and grounds security, physical security, access control, and safety operations. Knowledge of workforce supervision and management principles, including staffing, scheduling, employee development, performance evaluation, coaching, corrective action, and policy enforcement. Ability to manage a large multishift workforce; develop subordinate supervisors and work leaders; and maintain consistent operations, communication, and accountability across shifts. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive personnel and operational information. Strong teaching and facilitation skills, including the ability to assess training needs, develop or coordinate training, and evaluate training effectiveness. Ability to foster teamwork, accountability, and professional development. Ability to learn, interpret, apply, and enforce University and departmental policies, directives, and standard operating procedures. Effective leadership, judgement, and decision-making skills while responding quickly and flexibly to changing operational needs. Strong organizational, planning, and project-management skills and ability to clearly communicate plans, assignments, expectations, and priorities. Ability to prepare clear and accurate schedules, reports, directives, procedures, training materials, evaluations, and operational records. Ability to learn how to use University scheduling, payroll, timekeeping, training, records-management, budget, procurement, and inventory systems. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a higher education environment or another large, complex institutional setting. Experience managing multishift security or public-safety workforce of comparable size and complexity. Experience planning security staffing and operations for major or high-attendance events. Experience developing, delivering, assessing, and revising employee training programs. Experience conducting training-needs assessments and evaluating training effectiveness. Experience developing or maintaining operational directives and standard operating procedures. Experience administering workforce scheduling, payroll, timekeeping, overtime, procurement, inventory, vehicles, uniforms, or equipment.
Three (3) years of formal supervisory or management experience involving personnel administration, staffing and scheduling, employee training, performance evaluation, coaching, corrective action, and daily operations. Within that experience, at least one (1) year of experience managing employees assigned to two or more shifts, including responsibility for staffing, scheduling, shift coverage, overtime, leave-related vacancies, special-event assignments, or operational continuity. At least one (1) year of experience directly supervising supervisors, work leaders, team leaders, shift leaders, or others responsible for directing employees.
