Job Summary: The Law School Reference and Research Librarian assists in providing an enhanced level of legal research assistance to the Law School's faculty as well as to other members of the Law School community.
Additional Department Summary: The Reference and Research Librarian is responsible for providing research and support services to the law school and broader university communities. This includes providing exceptional reference services and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and library visitors; teaching or co-teaching legal research sessions and/or guest lectures within the law school; serving as a liaison for the law school’s student-run law journals, moot court programs, and legal clinics; and engaging heavily with outreach initiatives related to library services and collections.
The Reference and Research Librarian is responsible for functional supervision of students performing reference services. In addition, they participate in collection development activities and engage in professional activities based on interest, skill, and library needs.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Juris doctorate, master's degree in library science, and some library research, reference, and service experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, collaboration, cooperation, and resilience. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated enthusiasm for working closely with student populations. Ability to manage projects and balance competing priorities. Demonstrated project management skills and/or formal training in project management or workflow optimization/evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in library and information science (or equivalent degree) from an ALA-accredited library or information science school. Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
