Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Monday - Thursday 8:00am to 5:30pm, Friday 8:00am to 12:00pm, at least 19 hours per week

Job Summary: The Tutor provides one-on-one or group tutoring services as required. Demonstrates specific knowledge base in their subject area. Uses a microcomputer and recent editions of common application software such as Microsoft Office. Files documents in appropriate files. Uses other office equipment such as a fax machine, copier, calculator, etc. Understands and follows basic written and verbal instructions. Demonstrates a caring attitude toward students, faculty, and staff. Reports to work on time. Attends a 3-4 hour tutor training class. Assists in evaluating programs and activities. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other administrative, faculty, and staff personnel. Attends regularly scheduled classes on the subject they are tutoring. Participates in staff and committee meetings as assigned. Communicates with other divisions appropriate items of information. Maintains confidentiality of office/student information.


Additional Department Summary: Tutors are subject-specific and are provided to the students at no cost to them. Each tutor will provide specific information as their subject dictates. Tutors must be approved by the specific departments in which they function. Tutors may be assigned to either Shelton State campus, Martin, or Fredd. This is a part-time, hourly position with a maximum of 19 hours per week.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Possess a specific knowledge base in their subject area and be approved by the department chair of that subject area. Provide the College with a current transcript or proof of courses taken in the subject area.


Preferred Qualifications: Tutoring Experience. Demonstrated competence with the Windows operating system and commonly used application software (Microsoft Office, etc.). College coursework.
