Job Summary: The Student Assistant Web Developer performs web development in support of University Libraries FOLIO programming project contributions.


Additional Department Summary: The University Libraries will place you in a position to learn, and use specific skills valued in the field of web application programming. We feel strongly that the skills you learn in this position will increase your marketability to organizations outside the University of Alabama, post-graduation. Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with a relevant programming language in Java and JS web dev frameworks or libraries.


Skills and Knowledge: 1+ years general experience with Java & Spring.io & React – most important. General experience HTML5, CSS3, JS libraries, Javascript, SQL. Experience with Stripes toolkit. Experience using Github and performing pull requests. Experience with using Jira for programming work, tracking. IDE usage, with AI plugins for coding help (Cursor, GH Co-Pilot, etc.). Experience with large software projects. Experience with programming testing procedures – JEST and other JS wrap tests, acceptance testing, Smoke and Smell tests, etc. Experience with Jenkins servers and Rancher. Ability to take Miro boards and mock ups, and feature lists, and understand how to implement requests into functional software.


Preferred Qualifications: Spring.io preferred for back-end, React preferred for front-end.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
