How can you make a difference?
Scope of work:
The consultant will be responsible for the following activities, in coordination with the Somalia Country Office (SCO) task force:
1. Support Workshop Preparations:
•Set Workshop Agenda and Brief: Develop a detailed agenda and create a workshop brief outlining objectives, sessions, and expected outcomes.
•Socialize and Invite Participants: Identify and invite key stakeholders, including government representatives, international organizations, and community leaders.
•Follow Up with Participants: Ensure confirmed attendance by following up with invitees as necessary.
•Practical Preparations: Arrange logistics such as venue, catering, stationary, and other necessary materials.
•Collate Presentations: Gather and organize all presentations to be used during the workshop.
•Prepare Background Materials: Develop and compile background materials and resources for group work.
2. Lead Rapid Climate-Nutrition Situation Analysis (Desk Review):
•Information Collection: Gather data from key resources on climate shocks and stresses in Somalia, child vulnerability to climate change, nutrition situation and trends, impact pathways of climate change on child nutrition, greenhouse gas emissions from nutrition systems, key national policies and plans on climate change mitigation and adaptation, key partners and programmes, and climate finance opportunities.
•Summary Desk Review Document: Create a comprehensive summary background document to inform workshop discussions and presentations.
3. Support Workshop Facilitation:
•Workshop Room Preparation: Set up the workshop room each day, ensuring layout and resources are ready for group work.
•Group Work Compilation: Collect and compile results from group work at the end of each day, including photographing outputs for the workshop report.
•Note Taking: Document key discussions during the workshop and debrief meetings.
•Output Compilation: Gather all outputs to inform the writing of the meeting report.
•Report Contribution: Provide inputs for the final meeting report

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in environmental science, Climate Change, Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in project management, workshop facilitation, or related areas are an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in climate change, nutrition, public health, or related fields.

Experience in conducting desk reviews and rapid situation analyses, with a focus on climate change impacts and nutrition.

Strong understanding of the climate change landscape in Somalia, including key policies, plans, and stakeholders.

Experience working with international organizations and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.

Strong communication and training skills.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Some knowledge of Somali language will be added asset.

Fluency in English with excellent facilitation skills.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.
