How can you make a difference? 

Under the direct supervision and technical guidance of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Specialist will provide technical support on Emergency Nutrition and Integrated Management of Wasting in Afghanistan in collaboration with Civil Society Organization and Ministry of Public Health (Department of Public Health and Nutrition), Nutrition Cluster, and Other Un agencies. He/ She will be responsible for managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting of progress of the nutrition programs/projects within the country program with a focus on treatment of Wasting in Afghanistan as well as preparedness and contingency plans for nutrition response to emergencies. The Nutrition Specialist will provide technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant and child nutrition programs/projects according to annual workplans, allocation, results-based management approaches and methodology (RBM) and UNICEFs Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • An Advanced University Degree or higher in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, or other health related science field is required.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, related research or planning and management in relevant areas of maternal, infant and child nutrition, at the international level some of which preferably in a developing country is required.
  • Relevant experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English and local languages of the duty station (Dari and/or Pashto) is required.

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Proven experience in Management of acute malnutrition (wasting) particularly in fragile and protracted emergency settings like Afghanistan.
  • WHO Guidelines Adaptation- familiar with global shifts and recent updates to WHO guidelines, including the revised IMAM (Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition) protocol.
  • Proven ability in emergency nutrition preparedness and rapid response, especially in sudden-onset emergencies.
  • Extensive experience in developing high-quality donor proposals, preparing donor reports, and managing grants effectively.
  • Strong background in designing and roll out of IMAM capacity-building for health workers.
  • Nutrition Supply Chain Management- solid understanding of forecasting, planning, and managing emergency nutrition supplies.
  • Stakeholder engagement- effective collaboration with government counterparts (MoPH and PND), civil society organizations, UN agencies, donors, and academic institutions.
  • Technical Support & Coordination: Solid contribution to Nutrition Technical Working Groups and the Nutrition Cluster, including support for the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP).

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.

Remarks:
