This position is part of the Communications, Advocacy, and Partnerships area at the UNICEF Chile Office. Its goal is to position UNICEF as a leading voice and reference in children's rights, contributing to the strengthening of advocacy and strategic communication strategies to influence public and private policies for children and adolescents in Chile.

The incumbent provides specialized operational support in developing, creating, and disseminating written and audiovisual content that strengthens strategic communication, enhances the organization's image, and supports advocacy initiatives of UNICEF Chile.

How can you make a difference? 

Summary of Key Functions/Accountabilities:
1. Writing, editing, and disseminating institutional content (press releases, news, stories, reports, blogs, among others).
2. Creating and managing multimedia content for digital platforms (social media, institutional website, newsletters).
3. Supporting the development of consistent narratives for key campaigns and projects aligned with advocacy and fundraising strategies.
4. Coordinating and providing logistical support for strategic communication events (press conferences, launches, webinars).
5. Media monitoring to identify positioning opportunities and report the media impact of communication initiatives.

Detailed Key Functions/Accountabilities:

1. Writing, Editing, and Disseminating Institutional Content
o Draft, edit, and review press releases, news articles, human-interest stories, reports, blogs, and other institutional communications.
o Ensure content adheres to UNICEF style guidelines and communication standards.
o Support on distribution content effectively through appropriate channels, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination.

2. Creating and Managing Multimedia Content for Digital Platforms
o Produce multimedia content such as videos, photos, infographics, and social media posts.
o Manage and regularly update UNICEF Chile’s digital platforms, including social media accounts, website content, and newsletters.
o Engage with online audiences, responding to inquiries, moderating discussions, and ensuring interactive and dynamic content delivery.

3. Supporting the Development of Consistent Narratives
o Collaborate with the communications team to develop compelling narratives aligned with key advocacy and fundraising strategies.
o Support the conceptualization and execution of campaigns, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with organizational goals.
o Assist in developing strategic communication materials and tools for various campaigns and projects.

4. Coordinating and Providing Logistical Support for Strategic Communication Events
o Plan and coordinate logistical details for strategic communication events such as press conferences, launches, webinars, and workshops.
o Support on liaise with external vendors, media representatives, and partners to facilitate successful event implementation.
o Prepare and manage materials required for events, ensuring smooth execution and follow-up activities.

5. Media Monitoring and Impact Reporting
o Regularly monitor local and national media to identify opportunities for UNICEF positioning and advocacy.
o Compile and analyze media coverage reports to assess the impact of communication initiatives.
o Provide actionable insights and recommendations to enhance future communications efforts and strategies.

Impact of Results

The impact of the Communications Assistant (Content Development) role directly contributes to strengthening the organization's visibility and institutional positioning, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of advocacy and fundraising campaigns, and ensuring narrative and visual coherence in all external communications, thereby increasing UNICEF’s impact on promoting and protecting children's rights.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education:
    • Completion of secondary education is required.

    • Additional technical training or university-level courses in Communication, Journalism, Digital Marketing, or related areas will be highly valued.

  • Work Experience: 
    • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in institutional communication, digital content creation, journalism, public relations, or related fields is required.

    • Proven experience in writing, editing, and developing content for diverse digital platforms, including websites, social media, and newsletters.

    • Experience coordinating events and managing communication logistics.

    • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and analyzing communication impact.

    • Previous experience in international organizations, NGOs, or similar entities will be an advantage.

    • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a field relevant to the position may be considered to compensate for three (3) years of experience in case the candidate lacks the required experience.
    • A master’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a field relevant to the position may be considered to compensate for an additional two (2) years (in addition to the three years from above, totaling 5 years)
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of English is highly desirable and considered an asset.

Desirables:

  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
