West Bengal is also prone to climate change related disasters. Supporting government to strengthen resilient health systems is one of the priorities of the country program and rolling work plans 2023-2027 West Bengal.

Purpose of the job:
Under the supervison of the Health Specialist, the Health Officer provides professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the Health Programme within the Country Programme, from development planning to delivery of results, by preparing, executing, managing, and implementing a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, and evaluating and reporting of results. The key focus will be to strengthen Primary Health Care Systems (PHC) for Routine Immunization and RMNCHA services, with focus on Urban, Rural and Tribal inequities in West Bengal.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
- Support programme development and planning to strengthen Primary Health Care Systems focusing on RI, RMNCHA with focus on reduction of perinatal mortality, ECD, childhood NCDs, adolescent health and urban, rural, tribal inequities in West Bengal

Minimum requirements:
Education:
- A university degree in one of the following fields is required: public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or another relevant technical field.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health/nutrition planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
- Experience in immunization and cold chain interventions, ECD and childhood NCDs strengthening primary, urban, rural, and tribal health systems, focused on perinatal mortality reduction and teenage pregnancy prevention is considered an asset.
- Experience of working at a state level is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a developing country is considered an asset.
- Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
