UNICEF's Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) in Budapest, Hungary provides services to UNICEF offices globally in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Payroll and Information Technology.

Internships with UNICEF offer eligible students the opportunity to gain experience in UNICEF’s work and get familiar with its mandate.

An internship is the perfect way to kick-start your career. Through this internship, you can gain your first experience of daily working life. We offer you the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge you acquired during your studies. In addition to theoretical knowledge, you will also gain initial practical experience.

How can you make a difference? 

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the team lead, the intern will be responsible for supporting projects and change initiatives in the Service Quality Management (SQM) team under Change Management.

This may involve

  • Provide support related to change management, including the rollout of centralized Global Business Services to UNICEF offices 
  • Assist data analysis and generation of reports 
  • Prepare relevant documentation with key information for dissemination (PowerPoint Presentation, briefs, reports etc.) 
  • Project management support 
  • Other support activities, to be determined including ad hoc administration and coordination  

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

The incumbent should: 

  • Be enrolled in a degree programme, preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Management, Leadership, Social Science, or other relevant fields, or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) 
    • Degree program, knowledge or work experience related to global business services or global shared services centers is an advantage 
  • Fluency in English  
    • Knowledge of one other UN working language is an advantage 
  • Eligible applicants must be nationals of EU countries or be eligible to work full-time (40 hours/week) in Hungary 

Required competencies 

  • Technical – Very good analytical skills and ability to synthesize concepts and material into clear and concise thoughts (see also communication below) 
  • Technical - Knowledge of relevant computer systems, technologies, and applications not limited to the Microsoft Suite (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, OnePlan, MS Project), design applications such as Canva, and AI 
  • Project Management - Organizes and manages information to prioritize focus and achieve defined goals and optimum results 
  • Communication - Effectively presents thoughts and ideas including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise, and readily understood manner, both verbally and in writing. Listens to and acknowledges others' perspectives and views 
  • Flexibility - Works effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – able to work well in a team environment 
  • Ability to work independently 

Contract duration and terms

  • This contract is for a 3-month duration, a minimum of 3 days in the office, 2 days remote per week
  • The intern is expected to be in the office when needed for specific activities
  • The anticipated start date of this internship is September 2025.
  • This internship is paid with a stipend of net HUF 2360 / hour capped at net HUF 405,941 per month.
  • This is a full-time internship - 40 working hours per week are required
  • Individuals must fund their travel and living expenses
  • Individuals must have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station
  • Individuals are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa or residence permit, covering the entire period of their internship
  • Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota

Government employees who are considered for a contract with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government positions before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
