How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the job 

The WASH Officer reports to the WASH Manager who is at level 4 for supervision. The WASH Officer provides technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the climate resilient WASH programming process and emergency preparedness and response. The Officer prepares, manages, and implements a variety of technical and administrative tasks, related to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH output results of the country programme.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • A University degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, civil engineering, sanitary engineering or another relevant technical field.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree are a strong asset

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes
  • Experience implementing WASH-related emergency programmes in Pakistan, including sector-wide coordination
  • Experience in at least two of the following technical skills: programme/project management, capacity development, knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience implementing programs in at least two of the following sub-sectors: WASH social and behavior change, menstrual health and hygiene, rural and/or urban water and sanitation services, WASH in schools and/or health facilities
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver timely results
  • Demonstrated capacity to collaborate within and outside an organization
  • Demonstrated capacity to learn and apply new knowledge and skills
  • At least one year implementing WASH programs in a humanitarian context

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge a local language (Urdu) is an asset.

Desirables:

  • Experience applying climate resilience aspects of WASH in programming
  • Familiarity with climate change and environmental protection
  • Knowledge of child rights and gender equality principles, gender sensitive programming and gender issues in the WASH sector
  • Previous experience within UNICEF

UNICEF appointements are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
