For every child, the right to a voice

UNICEF’s Asia and Pacific Regional Office (APRO) supports 22 Country Offices to deliver results for children in 36 countries and territories. The Advocacy and Communication Section aims to influence public and political discourse, positioning UNICEF as a leading voice for children. This role, based in New Delhi, will focus on building strong media relations, especially with South Asia bureaus, to increase visibility and impact of UNICEF’s work.

How can you make a difference? 

As Communication Specialist (Media), you will:

  • Support and implement a regional media strategy aligned with UNICEF’s advocacy priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional and international media.
  • Pitch compelling stories and data to top-tier outlets.
  • Provide media support during emergencies, ensuring UNICEF’s voice is heard within 72 hours.
  • Train and support UNICEF spokespeople and Country Offices.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, or Public Relations. (A first university degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree in the field of journalism, communications, external relations, public affairs, public relations or corporate communications.)
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communication, media relations, or journalism. Field experience and familiarity with emergency contexts are required.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language or a local language is an asset.

 

Desirables:

  • Proven track record of securing top-tier media coverage.
  • Experience across print, broadcast, and digital media.
  • Strong writing and crisis communication skills.
  • Familiarity with South Asia and its media landscape.
  • Previous experience with UNICEF or the UN is an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is required.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
