The main objective of this consultancy is to develop National Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) clinical protocol and Breastfeeding Counselling Manual. Linking the development of the clinical protocol and breastfeeding counselling manual will help to cross reference in the implementation of relevant interventions. This task involves synthesizing global guidance and recommendations, consult local expertise and best practices. The consultant will develop clinical protocol based on WHO clinical protocol for inpatient management of severe wasting and review and contextualize the IYCF Counselling manual of WHO.

Scope of Work:
Clinical protocol for the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) and (ii) Revised Breastfeeding counselling Manual.
- Present approach paper or concept note on the how he/she delivers the task, the timeline for development of National Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) clinical protocol and review and contextualization of Breastfeeding counselling Manual in consultation with key stakeholders.
- Conduct a comprehensive desk review of international and national documents and relevant materials, guidelines/clinical protocols, on the inpatient management of severe wasting, breastfeeding/IYCF counselling and prepare summary.
- At national level, facilitate and conduct in-depth technical and programmatic consultations with the wider stakeholders including NuTEC meetings.
- Ensure the Medical/ clinical protocol is aligned with the revised IMAM guideline.
- Develop National Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) clinical protocol and review and contextualize of Breastfeeding counselling Manual based on the WHO IYCF counselling manual.
- Organise and facilitate validation workshop for IMAM clinical protocol and breastfeeding counselling Manual in consultation with Ministry of Health and Population/ Family Welfare Division and UNICEF.
- Organize the meetings of the NuTEC for the consultation and feedback.
- Finalize the IMAM clinical protocol and breastfeeding counselling manual by incorporating all the comments and feedback.
Tasks:
- Develop detailed approach paper or inception report with timeline and activities.
- Conduct desk review on national and international available policies, strategies, and program documents related to IMAM/CMAM, inpatient management of severe acute malnutrition and breastfeeding counselling.
- Draft the IMAM Clinical protocol
- Coordinate among partners for national level consultation workshop to review the IMAM clinical protocols
- Finalize the IMAM clinical protocol
- Draft the breastfeeding counselling manual.
- Coordinate among partners for national level consultation workshop to review the breastfeeding counselling manual.
- Finalize the breastfeeding counselling manual.
First Deliverable
- Submission of inception report (The report contains-Introduction, objectives, scope of work, methodology/approaches to achieve objectives, stakeholders to be involved and timeline with activities)
Second Deliverable
- Submission of desk review report (The report contains- objectives, methodology, inclusion and exclusion criteria, searches, international and national documents and relevant materials, guidelines/clinical protocols, on nutrition specific interventions, particularly on IMAM and breastfeeding)
Third Deliverable
- Submission of draft IMAM clinical protocol (This contains- updated technical contents of IMAM clinical protocol for OTC and ITC)
Fourth Deliverable
- Submission of consultation workshop report (This report contains- objectives, methods used, list of participants, major technical feedback/suggestions on the IMAM clinical protocol and lessons learnt)
Fifth Deliverable
- Submission of final IMAM clinical protocol (The final package contains- contents that fulfil the requirements of FWD/DoHS/MoHP, updated contents of IMAM clinical protocol including OTC and ITC)
Sixth Deliverable
- Submission of draft breastfeeding counselling manual (This contains- updated technical contents of breastfeeding counselling based on WHO IYCF counselling package in the context of Nepal)
Seventh Deliverable
- Submission of consultation workshop report (This report contains- objectives, methods used, list of participants, major technical feedback/suggestions on the breastfeeding counselling package and lessons learnt)
Final Deliverable
- Submission of final breastfeeding counselling manual (The final package contains- contents that fulfil the requirements of FWD/DoHS/MoHP, updated contents of breastfeeding counselling based on WHO IYCF counselling package in the context of Nepal)
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Education:
Master’s - MD in Paediatrics, Master in Public Health or Master in Nutrition.
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:
A minimum of eight years of professional experience in child health and nutrition field, specifically providing technical support on Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition programmes/Inpatient Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition and promotion of breastfeeding.
- Excellent technical skills and knowledge about CMAM/IMAM programmes/Inpatient Management of Acute malnutrition and promotion of breastfeeding essential. Sound knowledge of Nutrition, specifically on Inpatient Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition and breastfeeding.
- Familiarity with the child nutrition issues in Nepal, particularly on the management of wasting (Inpatient management) and breastfeeding, highly skilled in development of technical guidelines and has excellent communication skills.
- Good knowledge of national policies, action plans, programmes and guidelines on CMAM/IMAM and breast feeding.
- Fluency in English and Nepali
